Set up an inactivity alert
You can set up alerts to notify you in the absence of expected activity, or in other words, to notify you of inactivity. This can only be done for alerts based on queries that do not contain aggregations.
To set up an inactivity alert, simply set the Low Threshold to zero. Therefore, where there is no activity over the time period that you specify, the alert will be triggered. You can do this when you create a new alert, or you can modify an existing alert. Here we'll show you how to modify an alert to make it an inactivity alert.
- Go to Administration → Alert Configuration → Alert Subscrtiptions. Select the alert you want to configure.
- Open the ellipsis menu of the row of the alert you want to modify and select Edit.
The New Alert Definition window appears. Select the Low trigger method. Then define the time period (this can be from 30 seconds to 1 hour) and set the threshold to 0.
If this window contains the Gradient trigger method instead of Low, this is because the original query contains an aggregation. In this case, you cannot set up an inactivity alert.
- Click Update to save the changes.
