Systems monitoring is an application designed to show in real-time the status of the machines in charge of processing and sending events to Devo. In this status report, we can find information about resources such as CPU, memory, disk or network, which are key markers to evaluate machine performance.
To be able to use this application:
The Devo Monitoring Agent must be installed in those machines we want to monitor. This agent gathers information about the use of machine resources and sends it periodically to Devo tagged as
box.statso it can be later used.
If you need help to install the Devo Monitoring Agent, please contact the Devo support team.
- The application must be activated in your domain via the Applications Gallery, otherwise you will not see the application in the navigation pane. See Applications gallery to know more.
- Your role needs to have this application assigned, otherwise you will not see the application in the navigation pane. See Assign resources to a role to know more.
Using the application
Once you access the application by selecting Applications → Systems Monitoring in the navigation pane, the application main screen will be shown. You will be able to see the activated machines, each of them in a different row with a summary of the key markers.
- Machine name: the unique ID given to that machine.
- Status icon: it presents a color-coded display to indicate if the events are being correctly received (green when they are and red when they aren't).
- Date: the moment in time at which the last event was received.
- General parameters: apart from a measuring number, they present a color-coded bar (green-yellow-red) to indicate the degree os exhaustion.
- Load: % of processor load
- CPU: % of CPU consumed
- Memory: % of memory used
- Disk: % of disc used
There are two levels of monitoring that entail different tasks. Depending on the depth required for your analysis, you can perform some actions or others:
Activate machines to monitor
In order to monitor a machine's performance, you need to activate it. To do that, click the Machines Activation button at the top right, check the boxes of the machines you want to monitor and click Update. You can also use the options at the top right for bulk changes in the checkboxes.
When the number of activated machines is high, the main screen will present a paginated structure for you to navigate if you want to see all machines.
Show monitoring data as a table in the search window
In case you are more interested in raw numbers than visualization, you can check the data behind these graphs in a more table-like format using the finders. You just need to go to the Data Search and open the relevant
box.stat table. See Run a search using a finder to know more.
